Approaching Bamfield Inlet, "Main Street" |
The gentle
sea swell continued to carry us onward to Barkley Sound, where we entered
Trevor Channel and Bamfield Inlet.

Adorable Cottages along Bamfield's West Side |
The
village of Bamfield has been a long-standing favorite with boaters cruising the
west coast of Vancouver Island.
The
village is divided into Bamfield West and Bamfield East by the Bamfield Inlet,
referred to as main street.
There are no
roads that connect the two areas of town so transportation is by dinghy or water
taxi (250-728-1212).

Shops along the Bamfield Boardwalk, Coast Guard on right |
Being early in the season, we were
able to find moorage at the Bamfield Harbour Authority docks on the West Side.

Bamfield Harbour Authority Docks |
After securing the boat, we
decided to pick up some groceries at the Bamfield Mercantile & Marine.
|
The Boardwalk or Sidewalks of Bamfield |
The best part about shopping at the grocery
store, is walking the scenic boardwalk to get there.
The boardwalk skirts the west side of the inlet, winding
through cottages, B&B’s, and shops; the path is so intriguing that it has
become an activity in itself.
|
A scenic afternoon stroll in Bamfield |
Locals are
often out tending their gardens and stop to chat, while others rest at one of
the benches found along the way.
|
Spring flower boxes are found along the Boardwalk
|
After
picking up a few items from the store, we headed back to the boat, arriving
just in time before the rain showers passed overhead.
|
Great views from the Boardwalk looking north |
Tomorrow we explore Bamfield Inlet by dinghy to confirm other moorage options for transient boaters.
