During today's research, we discovered some changes in Bamfield and some new opportunities while touring the area by dinghy and talking to the locals.

The Huu-ay-aht East Bamfield Public Dock |
The East Bamfield Public
Dock is now owned and managed by the Huu-ay-aht (First Nation) Development
Limited Partnership.
Side-tie transient
moorage is available on the outside dock and payment is made at The Motel
(250-728-3231) nearby, or at the payment drop-box at the head of the
wharf.
The Huu-ay-aht First Nation also offers
tours to the historic Native village of Kiixin, located in Pachena Bay.
Kiixin (pronounced keechin) is a National
Historic site with significant remains of a traditional First Nations village
and is the most complete known on the southern B.C. coast. Kiixin Tours (250-735-3432) begin in late May
and leave from East Bamfield.
We hope to take in one of these tours at a later date.

Pacific Gateway Wilderness Lodge |
If you are
looking for a fine dining experience, Bamfield has that now, too.
The Pacific Gateway Wilderness Lodge (888-493-8933)
on Aguilar Point, West Bamfield, offers three-course dinners, open to the public
with a 24-hour advance reservation.

Dinghy space at the Pacific Gateway Lodge dock |
Boaters can tie their dinghy at the Gateway Lodge dock, hike the short trail up the hill, and enjoy an excellent meal created by the resort’s “Red Seal Chef.”
Pacific Gateway Lodge opens on June 1
st for
the 2018 season.

Bamfield Harbour Authority Dock |
Moorage options in
Bamfield for visiting boaters include the East Bamfield Public Dock, and the
Bamfield Harbour Authority Docks in West Bamfield.
The Harbour Authority Docks have ample
moorage but fill up during the busy months of July and August.
Other moorage options include McKay Bay Lodge
and Harbourside Lodge when dock space is not being used by their hotel guests. Anchorage is a
viable option in nearby Port Desire within easy reach of Bamfield by dinghy.

Bamfield Mercantile & Marine |
If you need to purchase groceries while
staying in Bamfield, don’t miss visiting the Bamfield Mercantile & Marine,
accessed by a lovely boardwalk on the West Side, or you can go by dinghy and
tie-up in front of the store at their 20-minute guest dock.

Take in great views and great music at the Marine Research Auditorium |
In late July, Bamfield holds their annual
Music by the Sea festival in the beautiful Marine Research auditorium, drawing many
boaters to this special place.
