A Jungle Excursion

On May 15, we departed Clayoquot Sound, carefully following the channel markers out to sea.  After reaching a reasonable distance from shore, we turned south for Barkley Sound.  Seas were 6-7 feet at 14 seconds, giving us a gentle ride all the way to Barkley Sound.  We spent a couple nights in Ucluelet catching up on housekeeping chores and business-related matters, then headed north up Barkley Sound where we anchored behind Bazett Island in Toquart Bay.
Lovely Anchorage behind Bazett Island in Barkley Sound
This pretty area is near the entrance to Pipestem Inlet and is considered a remote corner of Barkley Sound.  We saw only one other boat, identified as Sea’s The Dream.  After making sure our anchor was set well, we headed out with the dinghy to explore Lucky Creek.  Java, our Waggoner Guide Dog, went with us.
A Disney-like Jungle Excursion along Lucky Creek
The entrance to the creek, or small river, is directly across Pipestem Inlet from Bazett Island and is a worthwhile destination by dinghy.  Lucky Creek reminded us of a Disney-like jungle excursion, as we wound our way past meadows and underneath tree branches.

Rocks and reefs skirt the shore, so it’s important to go in at high tide and follow the deepest part of the channel.
Small, Enchanting Falls
The short three-quarter mile trip up Lucky Creek ends at a small, but enchanting waterfall where you can bring the dinghy up close.  In fact, we nosed the dinghy into the rock and Leonard stepped off to find the local's secret that lies above the falls.
Some nice Swimming Holes above the Falls
Several deep pools lie behind and above the falls; a rope swing hangs over one of the pools for a fun plunge into the refreshing water below.
An "Edge Pool"
We suspect that guests from nearby lodges probably come here during the hot summer months to cool off at this unique spot.  It’s definitely a special place to visit, but one should take care when climbing over the wet rock; wearing non-slip shoes or aqua socks would be a good idea.
